In the Spring/Summer of 2016, I worked with Frederator and 1000 Toys (a company based in Japan), and Crypton Future Media to create a toy design and poster design. I was tasked with creating a version of Hatsune Miku in the Adventure Time style. Click through for more information about the project.

One of my final projects while freelancing at Frederator was to come up with concepts for the yet-unreleased season of Bravest Warriors. After a lot of trial-and-error, they liked my layout and linework enough to continue the project to completion. They plan on using the poster in their marketing rotation for the new season.

One of three risograph prints made for my master's Degree Show in 2015.

They were intended to complement the comic book that was the main feature of my installation, called "Sabotage." Each print was A3, two colors, and pulled thematically from the comic.

"Sabotage" is a short comic that I created as the crux of my master's degree. The first book of a proposed series of three, the story focuses on a young woman named Kay and her frustrations in a strange, sci-fi inspired city. "Sabotage" is an experiment in color, layout, and visual storytelling, and was put on display in the master's Degree Show in August 2015.

Much of my time during the Fall of 2015 was working on the Fredbot YouTube channel -- a channel that specializes in children's learning and entertainment. I illustrated and animated props and assets for these videos, including many many fredbots. The body language had to be clear and unambiguous, bright and cheerful, and able to easily appeal to kids. Frederator continues to use these bots both in videos and in merchandise -- the Fredbot Store (click here) recently opened featuring my designs.

While at Frederator, I got the chance to help with the branding of one of their newer YouTube channels, Cinematica. They had a very particular vision of what the imagery should be -- futuristic in a very retro way. They also wanted the logo to be based off of the already-existing "Fredhead" design that is tied to their central brand. I came up with the below "projector-head" design that I thought fit the bill; it had a steampunk-android vibe that referenced old antique movie projectors.

Retrospect Journal Cover

Retrospect Journal, an annual magazine based in Edinburgh, asked me to provide illustrations for their 2016 issue, "Legends and Folklore." I worked with the lead designer to decide on a photograph and layout, and provided illustrations for the front and back cover.

The artwork was also used for their website branding for the 2016-17 year.

Lucas

A simple illustration to practice print design, inspired by the character from the 'Mother'/'Earthbound' series of the same name. Sold during the summer/fall of 2015 in the Red Door Gallery, Edinburgh.

Fredbot Apple Bumper

As part of my work on the Fredbot YouTube channel, I created a short animated bumper.  It was a fun way to explore the Fredbot character, while making something potentially useful. I pitched the bumper, storyboarded it, and animated in AfterEffects.

This work is owned by Frederator Studios and posted with their gracious permission.

During my internship at Frederator Studios, I was given a brief to create an illustration for a show on their YouTube network: Scienced!. The background that the host stands in front of was being redesigned, and they wanted a fun, cartoony lab scene to surround him. The idea was to create a background that was interesting, but didn't distract or detract from the host. I kept the color palate light and minimally diverse, and added a lot of small details if the viewer happened to be looking closely.
